So true, numbers are kinder than our beliefs about money. Because beliefs are built on stories we tell ourselves, and sometimes the stories can be nonfiction, like math :)
Love the candour and bare-all courage of this essay. I flinched, because so much of this is me, but I also relaxed because the answer is so clearly snuck into its riddle ❤️
Gosh Raju, this takes my breath away. You know how much I love essays that start in the middle and end without ending. This one offers a new beginning at the end, yaniki bonus!
I love that you talk of money. And tell stories...we have all lived and rarely storied honestly.
Love your honest account of our relationship with money, so relatable! Shoestring budgets are something to grapple with at all life stages for various reasons. It's been hardest laying down my boundaries with friends/family when it comes to money, but I am getting better at it gradually.

I felt like your post gave words to so many of my feelings. Gendered negligence, yes, that's me.

Loved the writing. While the anecdotes are personal, the ubiquitous nature of it makes it relatable for most who would read it.
This reluctance as a society to discuss money has been on my mind. I wrote a piece on it as well on my Substack.

P.S. - Being a Nagpuri, loved stumbling on the city references.
Also binge reading the other pieces now.
